POEM FOR A LOVER (1988)

Brett Whiteley 1939 – 1992
Screenprint with hand colouring
79.5 x 77.2 cm

‘Poem for a Lover’ was inspired by the artist’s romantic interlude in Japan. The ill-fated relationship with fellow heroin addict, Janice Spencer, was increasing in velocity around the time he made “Poem for a Lover”, and his marriage to Wendy was disintegrating.
