An 18th Century Louis XV Chapeau de Gendarme Armoire

Made of solid walnut, the origin of this 18th Century Louis XV Armoire is attested by the presence of the “Chapeau de Gendarme” shaped cornice, traditional of South Provence, Avignon region.
The shaped cornice, above decorated pediment of fine carvings of C scrolled foliate motifs and richly carved outsized bouquet of Spring flowers and foliate motifs, traditional to the region.
The two doors each with three C scrolled carved panels and shaped apron, decorated with high relief bouquets of flowers and foliate motifs, The centre panels of the doors and plinth decorated with foliate motifs centred by a rococo carved shell.
Fitted with iron cast hinges and bronze cast escutcheons, on conforming foliate feet.
