French 19th Century Louis XVI Style Walnut Canape
c. 1880, France
An elegant French Louis XVI style intricately carved sofa of “corbeille” shape raised on fluted legs from the late 19th century.
Adorned with carved cresting top rail with centred ribbon detail above contemporary double piped silk and linen upholstered padded back and seat, decorated with acanthus leaves on the knuckles. The skirt showcases a twisted ribbon carving accented with rosettes on the knees while the sofa is raised on four fluted tapering legs, whose lines are typical of the Neoclassical Louis XVI era.
This canapé is the perfect size to be placed at the foot of a King, Queen or Double bed and would be a great addition to a nursery or child’s bedroom.
