A French Napoleon III Period Giltwood Cushion Mirror

c.1870, France

A stunning large French Napoleon III Period Giltwood Cushion Mirror in the Louis XV Style.

This is an exquisite piece and a fine example of a cushion mirror which shows the lovely red bole in areas of the gilding coming through. The original centre glass is framed within a sectioned border of six smaller mirror plates with the cushion fronted frame decorated with egg, acanthus scroll and floriate moulding as well as acanthus scroll corners.

An elaborate large ‘C’ scroll or Shell crest surmounts the mirror, emanating flowers and leaves.

A very fine mirror to add light and style to any interior.
